Did you know…
- Nearly one in every four women are beaten or raped by a partner during adulthood.
- 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men have experienced an attempted or completed rape.
- College age women are 4 times more likely to be sexually assaulted.
- Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.
- Women of all races are about equally vulnerable to violence by an intimate.
- Same-sex abusers use a form of abuse similar to those of heterosexual abusers, but they also have an additional weapon in the threat of “outing” their partner to family, friends, employers, or community
- 43% of rapes occur between 6:00pm and midnight.
- More than 50% of all rape/sexual assault incidents were reported by victims to have occurred within 1 mile of their home or at their home.
- 60% of rapes/sexual assaults are not reported to the police, according to a statistical average of the past 5 years. Those rapists, of course, never spend a day in prison. Factoring in unreported rapes, only about 6% of rapists ever serve a day in jail.
- About 2/3 of victims know their attacker.
- Attempted rape is considered a serious crime.
- Sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes, with 60% still being left unreported.
- Males are the least likely to report a sexual assault, though they make up about 10% of all victims.
- Victims are six (6) times more likely to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Sexual assault victims are thirteen (13) times more likely to engage in alcohol abuse.
- Sexual assault victims are twenty-six (26) times more likely to engage in drug abuse.
- Victims of sexual assault are four (4) times more likely to contemplate suicide.
